In Interview with Jeanne Barrack 12-06-2005

Alyssa: This snowy night, we’re speaking with Jeanne Barrack, Loose Id erotic romance author of an erotic fantasy trilogy. Hi Jeanne! Hope you are enjoying the snow and lots of holiday cheer! So clue us in…who are you? A bio, a backlist, your writing credits, or anything at all. Who are we speaking to?
Jeanne: A native New Yorker who left home 34 years ago after marrying her High School sweetheart. No kids but have always had dogs - Tibetan Terriers (TTs). They're considered good luck dogs and they really are. I was led to my present publisher, Loose Id, because I saw a picture of a couple of them on an author website, contacted the author, who it turned out I knew(!) She directed me to Loose Id. I'm a music therapist who sings in ten languages. I love all music except for the less melodious forms of popular music which shall remain nameless! <G> I work with seniors during the day and put on my writer's cap at night, on weekends, and on the drive to jobs in three different states. My dh is disabled and is the driver. I love foreign food and love to cook. I play guitar. I love reading and started out reading Bradbury, and ended up reading Woodiwiss. Right now, I've only the two books out "Silver Fire" and "Amber Inferno". "Sapphire Flames" is waiting in the wings for release from Loose Id.

Alyssa: Wow! That an interesting occupation, one I’ll admit didn’t know existed. And ten languages! That is IMPRESSIVE! Go girl! What hurdles did you have to overcome before you became a published author? How long did it take you?
Jeanne: Although I first penned "Silver Fire" in 1998, after my mom's sudden death and being down sized from my job, I didn't submit it to a publisher until August 2004, before that it went the rounds of writing contests and several revisions. It was accepted by Loose Id publishers on the strength of a synopsis and the first three chapters. They were the first publishers I ever submitted to!

Alyssa: So those dogs are lucky. Please, oh please, rub one for me! LOL. Ok, on with the interview ... Do you have any specialties you love to write about? What’s your favorite part of the writing, for example, do you love to hatch out fight scenes, love scenes, threesomes ... In other words, what really makes you fingers flow?
Jeanne: What makes my fingers flow? I love it when my characters take a life on their own and take over the conversation. When the dialogue gushes out as they spill their guts to each other. When they come up with a back story that wasn't there when I wrote the synopsis.

Alyssa: Isn’t that the best part, when the characters do the work for you! So, can you tell us something about you current release and what inspired you to write it?
Jeanne: My three books are a trilogy about an evil force who wishes to take over an alternate world where "magic rules and sex is the fuel". "Silver Fire" and "Amber Inferno", books one and two are available now from Loose Id. They tell about Prince Jareth, who is also a mage and his soulmate Mirelle, kidnapped at birth and taken to Earth. She's taken back to Hearthome by Jareth and upon her return, they discover that the evil force who sent Mirelle into exile has a greater agenda - to rule Hearthome. "Amber Inferno", Book two continues the quest to defeat this evil and centers on Jareth's brother, Pentar and Princess Rayne. They've concealed their attraction for each other for years, but when sent to seek out a magic book before it falls into the hands of the villain, their feelings are revealed. "Sapphire Flames", book three, is due this winter from Loose Id. This last book concerns Prince Loran, the youngest brother. Unlike his two older siblings, Loran has no magic abilities, relying on his extreme intelligence. He's sent to the court of Princess Talea, Tally to her friends. It's rumored that the last part of the Magic book is hidden somewhere in her kingdom. All three couples join together at last to face the villain. I really fell in love with these men and their soulmates. Each is so different from the others.

Alyssa: Oh wow, these books sound so interesting! And hot! Tell me, why erotic romance? What do you LOVE about the genre?
Jeanne: I love erotic romance! I like the freedom to share with the reader what exactly my characters are feeling when they engage in that most intimate act with another sentient being. My first experience with more graphic sensuous writing was Bertrice Small's "The Kadin". After I read it I went searching for more of the same! And when I started writing I found that I loved indulging in that same freedom!

Alyssa: Now let’s talk a little about Jeanne, the person. What’s your favorite food?
Jeanne: Everything <G> No, I love foreign food - Italian, Indian, Greek, etc. and love cook. I have a zillion cookbooks.
